Is it time to accept that I’m never going to get it together and pick some iPhone photos to print? (Make no mistake: ordering the prints is the easy part, selecting the “best shots” to print, out of the thousands I’ve barely winnowed down over these last months, years, is the impossible task.)
This is where my Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Instant Camera comes in handy. The adorable pastel device had been on my wish list for years, but I could never pull the trigger. Then came an ingenious idea to request it for a Christmas present from J…And here we are.
My (subconscious?) Big Dream for the Instax as soon as I got it was to document my then-much-anticipated L.A. trip à la Vogue’s March 2015 cover story on Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss, in which they road trip around Big Sur in Northern California and snap photos of each other (see above.)
My photos did not turn out so Romantic. In fact, I don’t have a single picture from our car rides in California (we also had a minivan not a vintage convertible!)
Anyway, I’m proud to have made an effort to bring along the camera. Nothing beats instant gratification—and I’ve come to find the imperfections in each shot quite endearing.
